The sage we know as Derek Zoolander had it right all along when he, dressed as a merman, murmured that "moisture is the essence of wetness, and wetness is the essence of beauty." Hydration is one of the easiest ways to keep your skin looking younger and more supple. And it's why I came to know, and love, the world's cutest and most user-friendly humidifier, the Canopy.

I have the Canopy. I love the Canopy. How, exactly, does one fall in love with a humidifier, one of the most mundane household purchases you can make? Fair question.

Let's start with the superficial. The Canopy is just adorable, unlike most humidifiers, which look like relics from 1977. It's small, dainty, and can be tucked in a corner where it doesn't command too much attention or floor space.

It's quiet. It runs for 36 hours. And it hydrates rooms up to 500 square feet in size, which means it's perfect for your bedroom. And most important, it does its job well. It hydrates the air. Which, in turn, hydrates your skin. Which, in turn, helps you look younger because moist, happy skin is radiant skin. As opposed to dull, flaky, icky skin.

"Your skin barrier is the skin's outer layer, which protects you from environmental aggressors. When the barrier becomes disrupted, it leads to dryness, irritation and inflammation. Over time, this contributes to premature aging, like the development of fine lines and wrinkles," says dermatologist Dr. Joshua Zeichner, the director of cosmetic and clinical research at Mount Sinai Hospital. "Skin dryness also leads to a dull appearance, as light cannot reflect as well off of dry cells that build up on the skin's surface. Humidifiers help replace moisturize in the air and keep the skin barrier in as good shape as possible."

The Canopy restores the humidity levels in the air, giving your skin the moisture it needs. This helps you look younger and fresher, especially when you add a fantastic face oil, like this one from Drunk Elephant, to the mix.

But the best part is how low maintenance this humidifier is. If you've ever tried to clean (or even just refill) a humidifier, you may have encountered caked mold and other questionable matter on or around the tank. And then you thought to yourself: Umm, ok, I'm breathing this garbage in, day in and day out. And then you stopped using it.

Here's where the Canopy really shines. The Canopy is made up of five parts, and any of the ones that come into contact with water can go right in the dishwasher. Read that again: These parts are dishwasher safe. You take it apart (don't worry, it's easy), wash the pieces in the dishwasher, then wipe them down and reassemble. It's life-changing.

And though you may associate humidifiers with wintertime and dry heat, know that in summer the AC also rips moisture from the air. So your Canopy can help you all year round. And if you use it in auto mode, it goes to work at night, when your skin may need extra hydration. Your face will thank you.
