How Cannabis Oil Gets Your Lashes High

Marijuana may still be up for legal debate in your state, but in your makeup bag? That is a different story. Cannabis oil is known for its benefits for both body and skin, and now it’s making its way into your beauty too. Milk Makeup’s new KUSH High Volume Mascara ($24) is a fiber formula that’s the first of its kind to include the buzzy ingredient and be totally vegan. But beyond the hype, what this mascara really gives you are the lush lashes you’ve been jonesing for.

The makeup mavens at Milk were looking for a vegan alternative to beeswax, and they turned to the hemp plant’s cannabis oil to create a full-volume fiber mascara (no worries about getting a contact high, since the oil doesn’t contain the psychoactive ingredient THC). It proved to work well in the formula: The oil creates a creamy texture that fuses the fibers onto lashes for a smoother application and tug-free removal. The conditioning ingredients also stick to hairs, continuing to keep them soft long after the mascara is wiped off.

But if that’s not mind-blowing enough, here’s another reason for the high accolades: The mascara is made with heart-shaped fibers rather than the usual cylindrical ones. The cannabis oil fills these hollow fibers so they widen and don’t give you that scary, spindly look (a big problem with fiber mascaras). Instead, you get a hit of majorly thicker, fuller lashes. But don’t just take our word for it — see how lit you’ll look with a single swipe (below).
