While Fuller House fans keep wishing the hit Netflix spinoff would return with new episodes, they're about to get the next best thing. Ahead of the holiday season, Candace Cameron Bure revealed she’s reuniting with John Brotherton, who portrayed D.J.’s ex-fiancé, Dr. Matt Harmon, on the show, to bring you all the holiday cheer this winter.

On the first day of fall, the Hallmark Channel unveiled its annual Countdown to Christmas lineup and among the new titles was The Christmas Contest. Two weeks after hinting about having a festive movie in the works, Candace posted a photo of herself with John on Instagram officially announcing the exciting news.

“Cat’s out of the bag! @johnbrotherton and I are together again! If you were #TeamMatt on Fuller House, you’re not going to want to miss our new Christmas movie 🎄!” Candace wrote. “A Christmas Contest will air this holiday season on @hallmarkchannel. Once again, developed and produced by the incomparable @jimheadjr (this marks our 20th movie producing together) and me!”

John celebrated by reposting Candace’s pic. “ If Christmas Movies were a contest… we’d win 🤷♂️ That’s right, we’re back… @candacecbure #TheChristmasContest @hallmarkchannel See ya soon… 😉🎄💝,” he captioned the post.

After spotting the former Fuller House costars together again, other fellow cast members swarmed the comments section with heartfelt messages. “YES!!” actor Bob Saget wrote. “I guess this was bound to happen, Deej. 🤣 love you guys!” said actress Marla Sokoloff, who played Matt’s wife, Gia, on the show. Candace responded, “I can’t believe I stole your man. That’s SO un-Deej like 😜.” Meanwhile, Virginia Williams, who portrayed CJ, commented, “Yay can’t wait to watch! We all know CJ was always #teammatt for DJ 😁❤️.” Candace replied back, “he he 😂.”

Needless to say, Fuller House fans were just as excited about the upcoming Christmas flick. “Oh my goodness… oh my goodness!!! This is gonna be GREAT!!! Fuller House taking over Hallmark!!!!” someone wrote. “Omg I can’t wait for this! Love you two together! ❤️,” another said. “❤️🙌🔥👏😍,” a different fan commented.

The Christmas Contest has no premiere date yet, but we do know some details about Candace and John's characters Lara and Ben. “Exes Lara and Ben compete in a Christmas contest to win money for the charity of their choosing. The city watches them battle and choose what is more important, victory or love,” the description reads.

And with that, our countdown to Christmas has begun!
