There’s a standard uniform that comes with beach days—think: swimming trunks, shades and an emergency layer for when you realize just how sunburned you are—but it usually doesn’t include a piece of denim. That is, until now.

This season, Canali's latest denim-dosed collection has taken a trip down to the Ligurian Riviera. The Italian tailor is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the fabric by looking to its birthplace as inspiration for the spring/summer ‘23 pieces crafted from the stuff—not that you ever need an excuse to appreciate the Canadian tuxedo. According to denim lore, Liguria is where Tela di Genova (what we now know as the traditionally blue-wash material) was first used, and the breezy, easygoing lifestyle found along those shores can be felt within Canali's new styles.

In keeping with the label's elegant design codes, this capsule comes with enough understated flair to have you looking like one of Dickie Greenleaf’s crew in The Talented Mr. Ripley. Alongside expected styles of straight-cut jeans in different washes, expect to find a revival of Canali's iconic safari jacket, made of a mix of denim and balmy weather-appropriate linen. Garments have a touch of coastal charm without having to get your feet wet—now that type of dress code is a lot more appealing.
