Canadian Woman with Terminal Cancer Makes Plea to Find Homes for Her Senior Dogs

Spending life with a pet can be such a gift, but it can also be a lot of work. Aside from loving them, playing with them, and meeting all of their basic needs, there's a lot you'll have to plan ahead for too. You'll need to think into the future to make grooming or vet appointments, but there's one more important thing pet parents also need to plan for.

Who would care for your four-legged friends if something happened to you? One Canadian dog owner is facing this question head-on as she tries to find a future home for her three senior dogs.

Susan Dickens was diagnosed with late-stage cervical cancer in 2022, and she doesn't know how much longer she'll be with her beloved pups. She hopes to find some peace of mind knowing that Cisco (a Border Collie mix), Booda (a Corgi mix), and Olive (an Australian Shepherd) will be safe and loved after she's gone. Fortunately, Canadian news outlet CBC shared her story on October 5.

Aww! There is so much love between Susan and her dogs, and it breaks our hearts to think of them living life without her. We can only imagine how she is feeling!

She told CBC News, "To know they're going somewhere beautiful is all that matters, and then I will feel way better." So many pet parents can relate! We all want what's best for our dogs, but it must be so daunting to have to find the best solution in a limited amount of time.

So far, Susan has had no luck finding someone or somewhere that will take all three old dogs after she's passed. It's essential to the old dogs' well-being that they stay together, but far fewer dog fosters and adopters can accommodate three bonded dogs.

One user who commented on the @cbcsasknews video explained that "there’s an organization in Canada called My Grandfather's Cat who rehomes pets in this situation." What a beautiful thing to do! This is a perfect lead to start looking for Susan's answer, though we hope she doesn't have to use it for a long while.
