Canadian Ski Resort Claims First Snowfall Of The Season- When Will They Open?

We have officially made it to late-September and ski resorts across North America are recording their first snowfalls on a regular basis.

Yesterday, September 19th, 2023, Banff Sunshine Village took to Facebook to share a picture of the first flakes of the season falling. The flakes are hard to make out, but they're certainly there if you look closely!

Check out the post below:

Thankfully, Sunshine Village's first encounter with winter produced more than just a few falling flakes. A quick glance at the resort's webcams this morning (September 20th, 2023) shows a light accumulation even at lower elevations of the resort.

We waited patiently as the sun rose over the Canadian Rockies to grab these images around 8:45AM ET from Sunshine's webcams.

Take a look below as Sunshine sports its first coat of white for the season:

Sunshine typically has one of the longest seasons in Canada with lifts spinning from early-November through late-May, conditions and weather permitting.

The early snow is exciting, but the resort's targeted opening date of November 10th, 2023 is still nearly two months away.

Skiers and riders will have to wait patiently (something that's easier said than done) until the season begins.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Sunshine Village posted a video to Instagram on of what appeared to be snow falling on August 21st. Was this technically the resort's second snowfall, or does the video show summer hail/graupel falling? You be the judge. Click here for the video.
