A Canadian Restaurant Turned Away Meghan Markle and Prince Harry
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle managed to slip away from their royal duties this holiday season — no Christmas walk 2019 for the Sussexes — but according to Page Six, they couldn't slip into one of Vancouver's premier dining destinations. After seeing the royals' security requirements, Chef Pierre Koffel, the man under the toque at Deep Cove Chalet, turned away Harry, Archie, Meghan, her mother Doria Ragland, and their entire security detail.
The paper adds that the Sussexes have been spotted all around Vancouver Island, including the trails at Horth Hill Regional Park and the sidewalks of North Saanich. Deep Cove Chalet, a French restaurant with views of the water, boasts a menu that includes "salmon tartare, steamed clams, poached lobster, and Dover sole," Business Insider reports.

Even though the royals didn't manage to get a table at the hotspot, Bev Koffel, the restaurant's owner, wished them well. She explained that she met with Harry and Meghan's security detail last week and her husband, Chef Koffel, decided that a royal visit, complete with security, would just be too much.
"Let them have their peace and quiet," Bev told Page Six. "For us to be so lucky to have them in the area, how lucky is that? I wish them all the privacy they can possibly get. They deserve it.”
Bev spoke to the Vancouver Sun, saying that she's excited that the usually sleepy town is getting a little time in the spotlight and attention from some high-profile visitors: "Horth Hill’s become a very popular place now. And they jog around, so they've been seen. It's kind of exciting. I hope everything goes fine for them. They're breaking away from tradition and I just wish them all the best."
