Camila Mendes Wrote the Most Intimate (and Public) Love Note to Charles Melton

Riverdale co-stars Camila Mendes and Charles Melton are quickly becoming one of Hollywood's sappiest couples.

In her post, she recalled Melton telling her about the movie back when they were still friends and not a couple just yet.

"He hadn’t even been cast yet. They hadn’t even started casting. All he told me was, 'I’m going to play this role, I am Daniel bae,'" she wrote. "Aside from having the biggest heart out of anyone I know, his passion and tenacity are part of the reason I fell in love with him. Watching him throw his entire heart and soul into this story of love taught me a lot about the kind of person he is."

In the movie, which comes out on Friday, Melton stars opposite Yara Shahidi; the two play young children of immigrants who fall in love over the course of a day in New York City. Melton, who is half-Korean, has spoken about playing a Korean-American in the movie, telling GQ, "Being an Asian lead of a studio film is very humbling, and it's very exciting to be a part of that story, an interracial story, which represents a true America, I believe."

"I’m probably sharing too much, but before we started dating he’d often get mad at me for trying to bring logic into love. he taught me that love doesn’t have an explanation, it either exists or it doesn’t," Mendes continued in her Instagram post. "It was his vulnerability not only as an actor, but also as a man, that taught me that valuable message, one that is so relevant to this film. I’m so proud of you Charles, and so grateful to have witnessed this beautiful journey of yours. Can’t wait for the world to see what you’re capable of. Happy premiere day!!"

Love letters (public or not) seem like a theme in their relationship — Melton told People that a "romantic thing" he does is to write love letters to Mendes, which she confirmed to ET at the premiere of the movie last night.

Gushy? Yes. Sweet? Also yes.
