Camila Cabello's Old Hollywood bob is on full display in her retro new music video

Update, February 13th, 2020, 9:38 a.m. ET: After a hair transformation tease on Instagram last week, Camila Cabello has revealed that her retro bob is almost definitely a wig. It’s part of the entire Old Hollywood look in her new music video for “My Oh My,” which she dropped yesterday, February 12th.

The music video opens with Cabello sporting a much more Marilyn Monroe blonde bob wig (and not the first blonde bob she’s had in a music video, either). But later, the retro brunette bob makes an appearance as the singer meets her collaborator, DaBaby, in a bar.

So, while now it’s clear that Cabello likely didn’t take scissors to her long, mermaid hair, we still love the throwback look. Watch the whole music video below to see it in action even more:

Original post, February 4th, 2020: There’s nothing like a drastic haircut to reset yourself. We know it, you know it, and Camila Cabello knows it, too. After a short hiatus from social media, the “Havana” singer just debuted a retro-inspired, cropped bob with short bangs on her Instagram. In the picture, Cabello rounds out the retro look in a leopard-print, sweetheart-neckline top, an oversized pearl barrette, and liquid liner so sharp it could double as a very classy weapon.

Cabello has become so associated with her mermaid-length, touseled hair that it’s fun to see a major switch-up.

However, the singer’s caption focused less on her new look and more on explaining her decision to take a few days away from social media.

Cabello’s break from social media is understandable. Recently, a Twitter user resurfaced Cabello’s now-defunct Tumblr page, which included blog posts, tweets, and memes containing racially insensitive language. Cabello issued an apology for the “horrible and hurtful” language she used when she was younger (she ran the page until she was 15), saying she was “deeply embarrassed [she] ever used it.”

Despite her heartfelt apology, we’d be lying if we said the controversy didn’t affect Cabello’s reputation. And now, it looks like Cabello is using her platform for much lighter-hearted content—like, for instance, this hair. Which is great hair.

Cabello’s caption says the picture was taken behind the scenes at a music video that’ll be “coming out very very soon.”

She didn’t clarify whether the cut is an actual cut or a wig. Though it wouldn’t be the first time she wore a short, bob wig for one of her music videos, as you’ll remember from the Instagram below.

The singer is currently in London to film the upcoming Cinderella reboot, which will mark her acting debut. Cabello will star as Cinderella, of course, alongside Pierce Brosnan as the King, Idina Menzel as the evil stepmother, a painfully handsome British actor named Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Robert, and—wait for it—Billy Porter as the Fairy Godmother, which is the best casting decision that has ever been made in the history of filmmaking.

That Cabello is playing a famously long-haired Disney princess also leads us to believe her short cut is just a wig, but that’s not stopping us from impulse-cutting our own retro bobs. Scissors, please.
