Camila Cabello Put a Goth-Glam Twist on Classic French Nails: Here’s How to Do It

Black nail polish is back, and Camila Cabello just proved it with a black-and-white mani that’s somehow elegant in a stealth-wealth or quiet-luxury way while simultaneously giving grunge and goth-glam vibes. The “Havana” singer’s vintage-inspired half-moon mani is the best of both worlds (and, selfishly, a fantastic way to appease both my Libra sun and Aquarius moon; if you’re unfamiliar with astrology, think of it like balancing Legally Blonde’s Elle Woods with Wednesday Addams.)

Much like the black-and-white tuxedo nails she rocked earlier this year, Cabello’s mani is courtesy of celebrity nail artist Tom Bachik, whose work has consistently highlighted ways to elevate minimalist trends. From Jennifer Lopez’s American manicure—which, like Cabello’s, offers an elevated twist on French—to Selena Gomez’s chrome golden-glazed nails that put a red-hot spin on the glazed-donut fad—Bachik and his impressive clientele prove that low-key and minimalist styles don’t have to look or feel boring.

The vintage-inspired half moon, which Bachik created for Camila Cabello on her promotional tour for upcoming film Trolls Band Together, is certainly no exception. But the best part? Bachik shared exactly how to get the look.

First, Bachik prepped Cabello’s nails with the Tweezerman x Tom Bachik Ultimate Nail Care Set and added a “simple soft pink” base in the form of Essie's Vanity Fairest. Then “black moons were painted at the base of the nail in Essie Licorice to give a bit of attitude,” he wrote on Instagram.

Bachik then took the aesthetic one step further, placing three Swarovski crystals down the right-hand pointer finger to “give the perfect added sparkle” and topped everything off with Essie Good to Go Top Coat and Roll On Nail and Cuticle Oil “for a finishing touch.”

As is always the case when it comes to Bachik’s designs, the results are absolutely stunning.
