Cameron Boyce Dies at Age 20

"The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights."

Cameron Boyce has died at the age of 20, ABC News reports. The Disney star, who appeared in the Descendants franchise as well as on the series Jessie, reportedly passed away in his sleep due to an “ongoing medical condition.”

A family spokesperson informed ABC News of Cameron’s death on Saturday, July 6, saying in a statement: “It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we report that this morning we lost Cameron. He passed away in his sleep due to a seizure, which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated. The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him. We are utterly heartbroken and ask for privacy during this immensely difficult time as we grieve the loss of our precious son and brother.”

Cameron began his film and television career more than a decade ago, in 2008. In addition to his work on the Descendants and Jessie, the actor was seen on a variety of Disney Channel shows including Liv and Maddie, Shake It Up, and Bunk’d. He will appear in Descendants 3 as Carlos, set to air this August, and had been cast in the upcoming HBO series Mrs. Fletcher.

In the wake of Cameron’s passing, celebrities and fans have taken to social media to remember him, and the Disney Channel also issued a statement, reflecting on the loss of the actor. “From a young age, Cameron Boyce dreamed of sharing his extraordinary artistic talents with the world,” Disney's statement read, according to E! News. “As a young man, he was fueled by a strong desire to make a difference in peoples' lives through his humanitarian work. He was an incredibly talented performer, a remarkably caring and thoughtful person and, above all else, he was a loving and dedicated son, brother, grandson and friend. We offer our deepest condolences to his family, castmates and colleagues and join his many millions of fans in grieving his untimely passing. He will be dearly missed.”
