Calling All ‘Giving Tree' Fans: James Franco to Direct and Star in Shel Silverstein Biopic
Where the Sidewalk Ends...James Franco begins.
The 39-year-old actor is in talks to direct and star in a movie about famous children’s author, poet, cartoonist and lyricist Shel Silverstein, according to Deadline. The film will be adapted from the 2007 book A Boy Named Shel by Lisa Rogak.
Although we all know Silverstein as the man behind beloved favorites like The Giving Tree, Falling Up and countless others, there’smore to him than meets the eye. (Fun fact: He was a cartoonist for Playboy.) The author died in 1999 at age 68 in Key West, Florida.
