9 Gorgeous Hair Colors to Switch Things Up This Spring

Gorgeous Hair Colors to Switch Things Up This Spring

Refresh your look with one of these trendy shades.

As a new season approaches, it's time to refresh your hair color. This spring, there will be a variety of trendy hues to fit just about everyone's preferences, whether you like a subtle balayage or a bolder shade like bright pink. Many of these looks should be done by a professional, so if you do head to the salon, make sure to wear your face mask. Some of the styles include suggestions for getting the look at home if you don't want to head out or just want a temporary change. Plus, there are products to help keep your new color looking its best and your tresses nice and healthy. Here are 9 stunning hair colors that are going to be trending this spring, according to several top stylists from across the country.

Blonde Balayage

"Blonde balayage is always a good idea," says Jamila Powell, owner of Maggie Rose Salon in Davie, Flordia, and Naturally Drenched, especially if you're trying out lighter pieces for the first time. "Ask your stylist for various shades of blonde placed throughout your hair," she says, to get a look similar to this one, done by stylist Alexis Meeks. To keep your blonde strands cool, make sure to use the Amika Bust Your Brass Blonde Shampoo ($20, Sephora) once a week.

Shimmering Pink

If you're looking to try a unique shade that isn't ultra-bright, try something like this lighter pink by hairstylist Kayah Pouncie. "These shades are eye-catching and make a statement," Powell explains. "However, this color does require a lot of maintenance. I would definitely discuss the upkeep with your stylist before moving forward with this color." To try out the look before you commit, use a rose-tinted shampoo, like the Brite Pastel Pink Shampoo ($5, Ulta).

Money Piece

You either love it, or you hate it, but there's no denying that this '90s-inspired trend is back. "The money piece is definitely a win," Powell says of this color by stylist Regina Janvier. "This look creates a glowing effect and brightens the face. Ask your stylist to lighten the front, and then select a color that gives you some pizzazz." Don't forget to use a protectant like the Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Heat Styling Spray ($28, Sephora) when using hot tools to prevent damage.

Brown Balayage

Keep your darker hair during the warmer months but brighten it up with this color by Janvier. "Brown balayage gives hair lots of dimension and pop, and it works for everyone," Powell explains. "This color gives a nice subtle sun-kissed look, perfect for spring. Ask your stylist for different shades of brown properly placed throughout the hair." If you have curls, keep them soft and nourished with a hydrating conditioner, like the Briogeo Curl Charisma Rice Amino + Shea Curl Defining Conditioner ($24, Sephora).

Golden Blonde

Blonde is always popular during the warmer months. Instead of toning it out and going icy, try a warmer color. "Blondes are always craving more lightness at this time of year," says Tiffanie Richards, a master colorist at Nunzio Saviano Salon in New York City. "One difference this year I have noticed is the Instagram 'ash' is out. Throwing in some golden lowlights alongside bright highlights is the perfect mix to enhance your look this summer," she adds. To keep your strands from drying out and breaking off, use the Philip Kingsley Moisture Balancing Hydrating Shampoo ($30, Saks Fifth Avenue).

Hot Pink

There are a couple of beautiful, eye-catching options on the list, including this one by Janvier. "This color looks incredible on all skin tones," Powell says. "To recreate this look, ask your stylist for highlights placed throughout and to use the perfect shade of pink for you." If you want to do a temporary version of this vibrant hue, use the Lime Crime Unicorn Hair Semi-Permanent Hair Color Full Coverage ($16, Ulta).

Auburn Pieces

A toned-down version of the bold colors is this style by Pouncie that features rich auburn throughout. "I love anything two-toned because it gives amazing dimension throughout the hair," Powell says. "I would definitely suggest this look for warmer tones or brunettes who are looking for a slight change in the springtime. "Ask your stylist to lighten the tips of your hair slightly more than the rest to create a two-toned look," she adds. To prevent your deeper tones from getting on an orange tint, use the Joico Color Balance Blue Shampoo ($36, Ulta).

All the Orange

It's going to be a fun season for those who like bold shades. "The hair color I think is going to be the most popular for spring is any version of orange," says Brian O’ Connor, artistic director and cofounder of Good Dye Young. "My company has seen a huge increase in orders for our orange hair dyes." O'Connor recently applied the vivacious shade on Hayley Williams, the lead singer of Paramore. To get this look try one of Good Dye Young's semi-permanent colors: Riot ($18, Good Dye Young) or Lighter Daze Peach Fuzz ($18, Good Dye Young).
