Call the Midwife's Leonie Elliott Hints at What's Next for Lucille
Call the Midwife loves a Christmas wedding—and this year appears to be no exception. As the season 10 finale airs in the U.S. tonight on PBS, all signs are pointing toward Lucille and Cyril tying the knot in the show's holiday program. But Leonie Elliot, who plays Lucille, remains tight-lipped, describing the upcoming Christmas special as simply "grand" and "beautiful." That said, the actress did offer T&C a preview of what's to come for her character in season 11.
"We're just about to finish filming," Elliot said in an interview ahead of tonight's finale. "And how do I put this? It's been probably the most amazing season for me so far—for Lucille's journey and trajectory. I couldn't have asked for anything more as an actress out of season 11. It's a roller coaster ride."
Elliot shared that she "couldn't be happier," with how the show's creator Heidi Thomas challenged her both "as a person and an actress" in season 11.
"We get the scripts episode by episode and we always feel like we know who our characters are and, they're a part of us. They're embedded into us because we've done it for so long, but it's really nice to read a script and be surprised by something that she says or that she does, or for her to be challenged. That, for me, is exciting to play as an actor."
The 2021 Call the Midwife holiday special will air on December 25.
