A Call the Midwife Holiday Special Is Airing This Christmas

During the holidays each year, one of our favorite shows has a gift for us. While we can usually look forward to new seasons of Call the Midwife in the spring—season eight premiered in spring 2019 and season nine is set for spring 2020—there’s a special standalone Christmas episode that airs on PBS this December. The upcoming Call the Midwife Holiday Special is set to air on Christmas Day. Mark your calendars: It’s December 25, 2019, which falls on a Wednesday this year.

We can look forward to a holiday adventure with our favorite team of nurses, who are set to encounter some challenges as well as holiday cheer on a surprise journey north. Not much has been revealed about the plot of the Christmas special, save for a short summary. PBS has shared the following: “Mother Mildred and the Nonnatus House team go to the Outer Hebrides in response to a nursing shortage. Navigating the terrain, they strive to keep up with the needs of the locals.” Because Nonnatus House is bound for Scotland’s northern isles, we’re expecting more than a few stunning vistas.

We loved last year’s Christmas special, so we can’t wait to tune into this year’s holiday program. It will premiere on Wednesday, December 25, but to find out exactly when it will air in your area, be sure to check local listings.

If you’re a true fan of the show, you’ll also be interested in a board game celebrating your favorite show. Check out Call the Midwife The Board Game (it makes a great gift!). You can also read about the real-life nurse and her life experiences, which are the basis of the beloved story, here.
