Call for entries for annual coffin races t-shirt design

(MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo.) — The Manitou Springs Chamber of Commerce is inviting community members, artists, and graphic designers to submit their t-shirt designs for a chance to become the featured artist on the official 30th anniversary Emma Crawford Coffin Races commemorative t-shirt.

The Chamber said all entries will be voted on by the community and reviewed by the Chamber staff to make sure it meets the requirements. The winning artist will get $50 in Manitou Money to spend at Manitou Springs businesses, a coffin race T-shirt featuring their design, and their name will be announced from the stage on race day. The winner will also get two VIP tickets to the race’s finish line.

Submissions for the design are being accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday, July 26. Voting for the design will start on August 1 and end on August 16 at 5 p.m. The winner will be announced on August 20.

Designs can be emailed to coffinraces@manitouchamber.com and must be a singular .JPEG, .TIFF, .AI, .PSD, or PDF file with a resolution of 300 PPI. Physical entries can be dropped off at 354 Manitou Avenue. The Chamber asks entrants to provide their name, address, phone number, and email when submitting artwork.

Designs are requested to be a size of 16″ x 20″ and the background must be plain. Entries submitted on lined paper will not be accepted.

For the 30th year, the Chamber is requiring all designs to feature the following text either as type or integrated into the artwork itself:

  • “Manitou Springs”

  • “Emma Crawford Coffin Races”

  • “30th annual” or “30th Anniversary”

The contest guidelines also stipulate that all entries should have the primary subject be the coffin race or Emma Crawford related, and all entries must be original. AI creations do not qualify as original art under the contest guidelines, Manitou Springs said. Art that is found to be created using AI will be disqualified.

The contest is open to artists of all ages and there is no entry fee.

The 30th Emma Crawford Race will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26.
