California Ski Resorts Welcome Season's First Snowfall

Ski resorts across the American west received their first snowfalls of the season throughout September, but California had been spared... until now.

Mammoth Mountain and Palisades Tahoe both took to social media over the weekend to share their first glimpses of winter following a light dusting at higher elevations.

It seems like winter never really ended at Mammoth. The resort was open for skiing and snowboarding until August 6th thanks to a record-setting season that totaled over 700 inches of snow.

Mammoth plans to open for Winter '23-'24 on November 10th, conditions permitting.

The season's first snow eventually made its way north to Palisades Tahoe and the Lake Tahoe region through Saturday night.

Most areas saw rain, but the highest peaks of Palisades Tahoe were hit with a flurry of snow.

Check out the webcam video captured at Palisade's High Camp at 6am on Sunday, October 1st:

Like Mammoth to the south, Palisades Tahoe saw more snow during the Winter '22-'23 season than any in recorded history. The resort managed to keep Alpine Meadows open through July 4th.

Palisades Tahoe is planning to open for Winter '23-'24 on November 22nd, conditions permitting.

Ski season feels so close, yet so far. The first snow tends to intensify skier's impatience as they yearn for turns on snow.

Fear not, friends! We've made it to October and ski resorts in Colorado like Arapahoe Basin and Loveland Ski Area should start to spin lifts in just a few short weeks.

Hang on. We've almost made it.

Winter is coming!
