California Rescue at Risk of Closure Reveals Over 140 Animals Could Be Impacted
They're hoping their landlord can reach some kind of agreement.
Animal rescue organization Jelly's Place might look like simply a nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter, but they are so much more. The San Pablo, California rescue also helps connect low-income pet parents with the veterinary care their fur babies deserve, and they "educate the public about the plight of dogs and cats in the meat industry in Asia." According to their website, they've even connected with Slaughterhouse Survivors in Habin, China to help rescue animals from the meat industry.
Despite its generous mission, Jelly's Place is at risk of losing its property to its landlord company, California's Department of Transportation (AKA Caltrans). According to @abc7newsbayarea, the rescue would need to either bid at auction or sign a lease they cannot afford in order to save their land--and over 140 animals.

We are simply heartbroken for Jelly's Place! We're also angered about the sudden changes from Caltrans, especially since it's already been over a decade since the rescue began renting. As founder and president Julie Bainbridge said, "we would have to figure out what to do with over 140 animals, [and] 15 people would lose their jobs.” That just can't be an option!
"Where are the billionaires? Step up and buy the land for her," @this.is.bts7 commented on the video. We like where your head is at! Though no billionaires have stepped up as of yet, tons of viewers are rallying support for the rescue.

On their Facebook page, Jelly's Place posted a link to a GoFundMe campaign as well as an update: "CalTrans has removed Jelly's Place from the auction block and we will pursue a long-term lease. Fingers crossed that it is an amount we can afford." We hope the donations are able to help, too!
