A cabaret, canines and comedy coming up at the Marion Palace Theatre

As the saying goes, "March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb" or vice versa. Interestingly, Australia diverges from the equinoxes to set their seasons, with autumn beginning March 1 and summer Dec. 1. The United States’ calendar uses the astronomical beginning of each season, using the equinoxes to mark the beginning of spring and autumn.

You always think of June as a summer month and September as an autumn month, when actually the majority of days fall in the spring and summer, respectively. Wouldn’t it just be easier to be like Aussies and go by the month instead of the position of the Earth? Or does it really matter? Now I am rambling.

On March 23, the "Cabaret in the May" series will feature hometown singer Grace Blackford, accompanied by her husband, Ricardo Morales, on guitar. Guests can indulge in a special wine tasting by Megan Dawson of "Wine Down," complemented by pre-sold charcuterie boards available through the box office.

April to bring mutts and music to Marion

The Palace Theatre promises a bustling spring season beyond March. From April 12-14, audiences can enjoy Ken Ludwig's "Lend Me A Tenor," directed by Emily Yaksic and starring eight talented local actors. This comedy, nominated for nine Tony Awards and winner of two, made its Broadway debut in 1989.

Returning by popular demand April 19 is the canine cabaret "Mutts Gone Nuts," a crowd-pleaser that previously graced the Palace stage.

Cece Teneal will mesmerize audiences with her tribute to Aretha Franklin in "Portrait of a Queen" on April 26.
