What happens when two fashion industry veterans join forces? A new luxury fashion line with an innate sense of sustainability and style is born.

Meet Câllas Milano, founded by Jan-Hendrik Schlottmann (partner of Derek Lam) and Marco Panzeri (CEO the Italian manufacturer Cieffe). The label launched about a year ago with a few staple pieces like an organic cotton trench coat with an elegant gold chain, and a silk scarf printed with scenery from Italy. As for their fall 2022 collection? It takes inspiration from the designers' stylish mothers.

Judging from the sheer amount of classics featured in the fall 2022 collection, it's clear that both founders understand investment shopping. There are plenty of suits, blazers, and outerwear on offer. The element that really drew interest and drove home that chic Italian sensibility (by way of NYC), though, were the fabrics. Lush poppy-hued velvets came in the form of high-rise pants and '70s cut blazers. Teddy bear colored wide wale corduroy is leveraged on coordinating trench coats and slightly-flared pants for a fresh take on suiting.

Some eclectic style in prints and patterns also serves some dolce vita. This came courtesy of silky printed floral sets and wrap dresses. The silk scarf has also become a sort of hero piece of the brand, as it has continued to release variations on the style since the it launched.Silk scarves were tied around some of the models' heads, knotted onto the straps of bags, and hanging loosely around necks in the most carefree way.

The chain belts worn over the wool skirts with leather trim also conveyed the sense of European chic, as if the belts had been passed down from your own stylish granny who was an icon in their own right back in the day. It's also the kind of modern and polished, yet slightly vintage-inspired look you're bound to spot if you're walking around the streets of Milan on a crisp fall day.

According to the brand, about 50% of the fall 2022 collection has some element of sustainability. With a focus on looking back at classics and an eye firmly on the future of fabrics, it'll be interesting to see what Câllas Milano does next.
