Céline Dion is a legendary performer—but for the sake of her health, she’s taking a step back from the stage.

Earlier this week, the “My Heart Will Go On” singer revealed that she would be indefinitely postponing her upcoming Las Vegas residency due to “unforeseen medical symptoms” that have forced her to halt rehearsals.

“Céline has been experiencing severe and persistent muscle spasms, which are preventing her from performing,” read an announcement posted to Instagram by Dion on Tuesday. “Her medical team continues to evaluate and treat her.”

“I’m heartbroken by this,” Dion, 53, captioned the post. “My team and I have been working on our new show for the past eight months, and to not be able to open this November saddens me beyond words.”

The musician was slated to headline 21 performances of a new show in November, January, and February at The Theatre at Resorts World in Las Vegas. Dion previously anchored multiple residencies on the Strip for 16 years before moving on in 2019. (According to Billboard, she not only had the most profitable residency ever—she’s also her own runner-up.) This would have been her first return to Las Vegas in over two years.

“I feel so bad that I'm letting them down, and I’m especially sorry for disappointing all the fans who’ve been making their plans to come to Las Vegas,” Dion continued.

Immediately, celebrities and fans alike shared an outpouring of love and support. “Sending you love and healing vibes ♥️,” commented Katy Perry. “Take care of YOU. We ❤️ you.🙏🏽,” wrote performer (and Dion’s former backup singer) Deborah Cox. “Get well soon. Hoping to see you in May ❤️ xxx,” said The Great British Bake Off finalist Laura Adlington.

Although it’s unclear what exactly is causing Dion’s symptoms, there are a slew of reasons for them, according to the Cleveland Clinic—anything from not enough stretching to muscle fatigue to dehydration. And persistent muscle spasms—a condition also known as spasticity—affects more than 12 million people around the world. Essentially, the brain’s communication with the body gets interrupted, resulting in extreme muscle tightness that can cause pain and affect movement, speech, and posture, and other functions.

The singer is still planning to embark on her Courage World Tour, which kicks off next March, as planned. “Now, I have to focus on getting better,” Dion wrote. “I want to get through this as soon as I can.”

We're wishing the mega-star a speedy recovery and can't wait for her world tour this spring!
