: Disney Gives Sneak Peek of the New "Guardians of the Galaxy" Ride

From Good Housekeeping

Update, October 5, 2016: We were a bit upset when we found out that Disneyland was going to replace the iconic Tower of Terror with a Guardians of the Galaxy ride, but after seeing this sneak peek, we think it's going to be okay. Disney Parks blog posted a photo and video of what theme park goers can expect for the new addition, which will open in 2017. Take a look at the Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT! concept:

According to Disney, the ride will feature an "epic new adventure combining the familiar, breathtaking free-fall sensation with all-new visual and audio effects, including music inspired by the popular Guardians of the Galaxy film soundtrack." It will also have multiple story lines so you'll get a new experience every time you ride.

Original, July 25, 2016: There are a few rides that it's safe to say Disneyland wouldn't be the same without: The spinning teacups of the Mad Tea Party, Mickey's Fun Wheel and we thought The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. But the happiest place on Earth just announced that this stomach-dropping ride will be shut down in less than a year.

It was first opened in 2004 and was inspired by the popular 1960s television show, The Twilight Zone. Guests take a spooky ride through an abandoned 1930s hotel, before plummeting 13 stories down, zooming back up, then dropping all over again.

The good news? Another ride inspired by Guardians of the Galaxy will take its place.

It's set to open in summer 2017 and will be the first element within a broader Super Hero universe the park plans to expand over time. The hotel will be transformed into a warehouse fortress where the guardians are imprisoned. Luckily, Rocket escaped and enlists the rider's help to break them free, which leads to a similar ride that zooms up and down - all set to '80s rock and roll tunes.

Still, the Internet is not reacting well to the replacement of the iconic ride.

Why would they get rid of the Tower of Terror 😫😫😫- khaleesi (@DomVeracruz) July 25, 2016

I don't like the Guardians ride taking over Tower of Terror for one simple reason: that ride introduced millions of kids to Twilight Zone.- Eric Vespe (@EricVespe) July 24, 2016

NO!!!! TOWER OF TERROR FOREVER!!!!! https://t.co/PgmJ5hoF8H- Sarah Hyland (@Sarah_Hyland) July 24, 2016

In fact, there is even a petition on Change.org to save the Tower of Terror. It already has over 1,200 signatures.

But don't worry: If there's nothing that could replace Tower of Terror in your heart, you can still get the thrill of plummeting down a hotel elevator shaft at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Although, for those on the West Coast, that's quite a trip, so maybe give the new ride a chance.
