When can you buy the “Women of NASA” Lego set? Sooner than you think

If you’re wondering what to get your friends for the holidays this year, we have your answer. The “Women of NASA” Lego set is being released on November 1st, and you’re definitely going to want one. The set includes little Lego NASA pioneers Nancy Grace Roman, Margeret Hamilton, Sally Ride, and Mae Jamison, along with a shuttle and a Hubble telescope. It’s about time, right?

The set was proposed by Maia Weinstock, the MIT News Deputy Editor on the Ideas platform last year and very, very quickly got the 10,000 backers it needed to get official Lego approval. And we think it’s the perfect addition to the classic children’s toy.

The set was designed by Gemma Anderson and Marie Sertillanges of Lego, so this is a female-led project through and through. It sticks close to the original proposal and even has some very cool details. For example, Sally Ride’s nametag just says “Sally,” which is how she had it IRL. The set will sell for $24.99 and includes over 200 pieces.

In addition to just being fun to play around with, it’s also a great tool to teach kids about some of the most important people in NASA’s history. Nancy Grace Roman was called the “Mother of Hubble” for her role in creating the famed telescope; Margaret Hamilton was a lead designer of the software that led to the Apollo 11 moon landing; Sally Ride was the first American woman in space, and Mae Jamison was the first African-American woman in space.
