What can we expect to see at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2023?
The full details for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2023 are yet to be formally announced, but there are some highlights you can look forward to seeing. For 2023, expect to be inspired by the exciting Show Gardens, as well as the smaller Sanctuary Gardens which will embrace the benefits of gardens on wellbeing.
Elsewhere, the All About Plants category will champion specialist plants, and the Balcony and Container Gardens will be designed for urban living. Visitors can also enjoy meandering through the famous Great Pavilion, which will feature some of the world's finest growers and nurseries.
Earlier this year it was announced that Chelsea Flower Show gardens will now also be judged on how eco-friendly they are to reflect the demands of sustainable gardening. For years, gardens have gone through a rigorous judging process to win Gold, Silver-Gilt, Silver and Bronze medals based on their delivery of initial brief, design, concept, originality, layout, construction, planting and much more – but it looks like things could get even harder next year.
"We are very aware that Chelsea gardens need to be more sustainable than they have been in the past," James Alexander-Sinclair, who has been an RHS judge since 2008, told The Telegraph. "We are certain that every single garden that's coming to Chelsea this year has got a future, and something we are looking at for the future is rewarding the use of sustainable materials and approaches."
Where is the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2023 held?
For the last 109 years, since 1913, the Chelsea Flower Show has been held at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London. The hospital is home to the Chelsea Pensioners who are retired soldiers from the British Army. Over 300 veterans live there today who have served in Korea, the Falkland Islands, Cyprus, Northern Ireland and World War II.
The building itself is a Grade I and II listed site and was given to the Chelsea Pensions by Charles II and Sir Christopher Wren. There are 66 acres of land attached to the hospital which include the Ranelagh Gardens and the South Grounds, where the Chelsea Flower Show is held.
The address is: London Gate, Royal Hospital Road, Royal Hospital Chelsea, London, SW3 4SR.
