We don't need to tell you that Thanksgiving will look a lot different for many of us this year. With COVID-19 cases continuing to rise in places all around the country, many people will likely be celebrating within their own households and quarantine bubbles, which could mean switching up their traditional menus. Walmart recently announced its plans and predictions for Thanksgiving shopping this year, including offering smaller turkey options and extending sales throughout the month.

Walmart began its post by predicting that the "sprint to Thanksgiving is likely going to be spread over a greater number of days, and the largest turkey in the freezer is less likely to be the star." They echoed guidance by industry experts, saying that many customers will likely be looking for smaller turkeys this year to feed fewer people.

"As always, we’ll have plenty of whole turkeys, but this year, we’ve increased our assortment of bone-in and boneless turkey breasts by 20-30 percent in stores across the country," the wrote.

They cited a survey by turkey giant Butterball saying that the number of people who plan to host larger gatherings of friends and family for Thanksgiving is down to 26 percent this year, as opposed to the typical 30 percent. Those who plan to celebrate with immediate family is at 31 percent, compared to the usual 21 percent.

It's impossible to know exactly what customers will want (you may want extra turkey for all those Thanksgiving leftover recipes!), but it sounds like you can get birds of practically any size at your local Walmart this year.

Additionally, Walmart said it has learned lessons from this past Easter and is extending low prices on turkeys all throughout the month of November instead of waiting until the weekend before the holiday.

"Regardless of how they plan to celebrate Thanksgiving, we’re committed to ensuring our customers can find what they want earlier in the season, all at affordable prices," they concluded.
