The warmer months are often associated with frizzy, poofy hair, but I’m here to tell you this summer is set to be your best hair season yet. Aside from switching up your hair color, there are plenty of hairstyles and haircuts that thrive in hotter weather (as long as you know how to style them, that is). I’ve been seeing a few buzzy looks (hello, French Curl Braids), but I wanted to chat with top celebrity hairstylists to share their predictions on the biggest summer hair trends and how to care for them, from the Butterfly Bob to Halo Curls.

1. Butterfly Bob
Bobs are still the most requested haircuts regardless of the season and the one making a splash for summer looks oddly familiar. If you’re aware of the beloved Butterfly Cut then you’re going to enjoy this latest iteration. “Bobs are always in; it's how we reinvent the classic cut into different trends to make it modern. This rendition is called a Butterfly Bob, which focuses on movement and texture around the hairline. This style requires face-framing layers that allow the hair to swing off the face,” says Cutler. If you want to maintain the look, the stylist suggests using a round or flat brush and blow drying away from the face. He recommends applying blowout cream for a straighter style or spray wax for more texture and definition.
2. The Rachel

This ‘90s hairstyle is making a comeback. Don’t believe me? The OG herself, Jennifer Aniston, brought it back earlier this year and the stylists I interviewed are predicting it’s going to surge in popularity during the summer. Cutler shares, “While glam is always in style, the newer interpretation consists of a ‘90s style, supermodel blowdry with exaggerated layers around the face.” Use a big round brush or Velcro rollers to add volume to your layers before spritzing on some hairspray for hold and shine that’s oh-so Rachel Green.
3. Elevated Blunt Bob

This low-maintenance cut has already caught the eye of Gigi Hadid and Sydney Sweeney, so be prepared to see a flux come June. “The blunt bob has taken on a modern twist for 2024. This trend has a blunt, sharp edge with uniform length all the way around. It can vary in length, ranging from just below the chin to above the shoulders, and can be styled in various ways such as sleek and straight or with textured waves for a more relaxed look,” says Korab. “It makes it ideal for summer when people often want fuss-free styles that can withstand heat and humidity. Just make sure to cut off any damaged and/or dry ends to achieve a blunt bob that can promote healthier-looking hair.”
4. Effortless Texture
This latest hairstyle is letting you embrace your texture and take on the beachy vibes. “Summer is synonymous with carefree vibes and sun-kissed adventures, and nothing captures this spirit better than the latest hair trend making waves (pun intended) across runways and social media feeds,” says Keasling. “Effortless Texture is all about embracing natural texture and movement. This style exudes a laid-back, beachy feel, as if you’ve just spent the day by the ocean. Think soft, loose waves that look like they’ve been kissed by a gentle sea breeze. It offers an undone yet polished aesthetic.” If you have straight locks, consider a curling wand and heat protectant spray to protect your strands. On the flip side, those with wavy or curly hair, can opt for styling cream or mousse to define your swirls.
5. Hydro Bob

Also known as the ‘semi wet look,’ this bob style sprung up around March and will continue to reinvent itself in the next couple of months. It uses the slick back approach with a slightly wet appearance using water, styling cream and hair spray. According to Smith, “The shape can be tailored to the individual. It can work with their features to create a length that sits between their lips and the middle of the neck. The styling products also provide definition and hold for those who like their hair to feel controlled and refined. You can tuck hair behind one or both ears along with combining the popular side part or single strands.”
6. Halo Curls

This layering technique is going to pop off for summer, especially for curly gals. “We will see the most dramatic version of this silhouette for naturally textured and curly hair. This crown-like shape represents statuesque, regal and confidence, which can celebrate their texture and volume,” says Smith. Once a hairstylist creates your preferred shape that best works for your hair type and face shape, the styling portion is going to be the most important to maintain the look. Smith recommends a leave-in balm to define curls, reduce frizz and enhance shine. He also notes a curl definer and mousse are great options to hydrate and hold the look before your next wash day.
7. Deep Side Part

Our beauty director already predicted side bangs are back, so it’s no surprise deep side parts are joining in on the fun—just look at celebs like Rihanna, Naomi Campbell and Florence Pugh for reference. According to Smith, he’s seeing a push for deep side parts for short haircuts, longer styles and even fringes as it gives drama to practically any style. He adds, “It’s a great option for those who prefer one side of their face over the other or who feel they lack symmetry. Similar to the side swept styles we see on longer hair, the use of a styling powder through the parting will give the wearer maximum control and invisible hold to the style.”
8. Italian Bob

The Italian Bob made waves in 2023 and it looks like it's making rounds again for this summer. “This style is a little longer than the standard bob with soft, textured layers to give it a modern twist. The style often features a slightly angled cut with shorter layers framing the face,” says Walker. To avoid it lying flat under the scorching sun, the stylist recommends applying some texture spray to add volume and give off a tousled look. He also adds hairspray for a light hold minus the crunch but with all the movement.
9. Bows

The croquette trend is thriving right now—and bows are having its moment. Celebs like Jennifer Lopez, Sydney Sweeney and Sarah Jessica Parker are rocking hair bows for their style and practicality. According to Worrell, it’s great for a half up half down moment as it allows you to show off your tresses while keeping hair away from your face during the summer heat. It’s also super versatile as it can be used with any hairstyle, as well as for any hair type and texture. Worrell notes you can leave your natural hair out or play around with extensions or a wig. The possibilities are endless.
10. Texan Hair
This Beyonce-approved hairstyle is all about celebrating the va-va volume. As Gaines explains, “Texan hair is inspired by the common Southern aesthetic of having a voluminous blowout that lifts hair from the roots and flows perfectly into large bouncy curls. Texan hair was at its peak in the 70s and 80s but most recently, Beyoncé made the big bouncy blowout hair statement after the release of her album Cowboy Carter, making fans around the world tap into all things Southern style.” To create the look, you’ll need a round brush to lift your hair from the roots before using a curling iron (or flat iron) to create large, bouncy curls. Gaines suggests applying a volumizing mousse for volume and home, along with a heat protectant spray to fight frizz and prevent hair from falling flat.
11. Sleeping Beauty Hair

If you’re searching for beachy waves this year, look no further than this trendy look. The effortless style was all over the Met Gala and Simich predicts it’s going to be the most requested look of the season. “It's so chic to be effortless these days. This look is all about less is more—giving European summer from the beach to the bar vibes,” she says. “It does require some work to get just the right amount of movement and shape. You want to add curls and waves from the chin (rather than from the root) to help achieve a very undone look. Also, brushing them out with a bristle brush rather than a comb will give fluffy volume,” she says.
