  • Busy Philipps is revisiting her ’90s roots thanks to her retro role in the Peacock show Girls 5 Eva.

  • The actress shared a photo of her on-set ’90s look and compared it to one from her teenage years—the actual ’90s.

  • “THERE ARE 27 YEARS BETWEEN THESE PHOTOS😳 But really- What is time?” she wrote.

In the Peacock show Girls 5 Eva, Busy Philipps plays a member of a ’90s girl group that, as middle-aged women, reunites to live out their pop star dreams. And the whole narrative is getting a little too real for Philipps, who, at 42, is reflecting on how much life she’s lived.

On January 19, the actress shared two selfies placed side-by-side on Instagram (you can view the photo here)—one from the set of her Peacock! show Girls5Eva in which she sported a super ’90s wispy hairstyle featuring big colored barrettes, and another from her teenage years. The hair and smiles look nearly identical in both photos.

“Sometimes being an actor is a real trip,” she captioned the post. “Me at 15 vs. me at 42 (pretending I’m 19 for #girls5eva obvi) I think I’ve posted this school picture before(🤷♀️) but omg look at my little baby face! So much like my kids!!”

Philipps has two children—Byrdie, 13, and Cricket, 8. “It’s a trip. Aging is ALSO a trip,” she continued. “THERE ARE 27 YEARS BETWEEN THESE PHOTOS😳 But really- What is time?”

That’s a great question, isn’t it?

Her fans and followers loved the post, and some even reflected with her. “Aw, So sweet. A beauty then and now!!!” one person commented. “Growing old(er) is a privilege x,” another added. ”Forever young 💗, ” someone else wrote.

Philipps’ followers know she’s no stranger to getting deep and reminiscing on Instagram. She actually does it often and covers various topics from personal struggles to family memories to friendship celebrations and more.

And when it comes to aging, she’s known for doing it au naturale—which doesn’t come without its insecure moments. “For me as a woman who has turned 40, and [has] never done Botox or filler... I have had moments where I’ve seen flawless skin with zero fine lines and thought, ‘Oh is that what I’m supposed to look like?’” she told The Daily Mail in 2020.

The star proudly showed off her un-retouched skin in an Olay campaign that same year. “Doing this campaign and being involved with Olay has really empowered me to think of my skin as one of my strengths and [to see that] the way it is naturally can be even more beautiful than some thing that’s not real,” she said.

That mentality is one she especially tries to promote in front of her kids, even when Instagram trolls try to bring her down. In 2019, she responded to a commenter who said her skin wasn’t good enough to work with Olay. “I will take that note and remember to speak about myself like I’m my own best friend,” she wrote at the time, per Today. “My own best friend with beautiful skin.”
