Bunny's Reaction to Having a Sour Grape Is Just Like a Human Kid

Summertime is the best time of year to purchase fresh fruit, though not even the season guarantees every piece will be ripe. Unfortunately, Ellie the Holland Lop bunny learned that the hard way. The hungry rabbit was munching on a grape that her owner gave her, but it was sour!

Even if the taste wasn't amazing, Ellie's priceless reaction sure was. Luckily, her owner shared the silly moment on @ellie.and.cali's account! We think she makes the same face a little kid makes when they taste something sour, and it's simply perfect.

Aww, Ellie! We could practically feel our jaws clench when we saw her face scrunch up. That sour sensation can be intense, especially when you don't see it coming. We've been there!

So many folks in the comment section could relate to the lop rabbit's sour struggle. @Demons_hunt could tell that "She's trying so hard to enjoy [the grape]" despite its offputting taste. What a little trooper! She could easily have spit the piece out, but she was determined to give it the ol' college try.

Though scientists have no way of directly asking animals what flavors they're able to taste, many animal experts and pet owners alike have seen rabbits respond negatively to intensely sour flavors like lemon. Rabbits have similar taste bud structures to other animals, including humans, but wild rabbits can even detect chemical differences in plants using their noses. This helps them distinguish toxic plants from non-toxic ones. Thankfully, pet bunnies don't need to rely on this sense! They do, however, need to keep their eyes peeled for sour grapes.
