Bumble and bumble and Christian Cowan Collaborate on Fanny Pack for Spring/Summer 2019 Collection

Fashion Week can be full of trends that look cool on models, but leave the rest of us just a little unsure about how the heck we're supposed to pull it off IRL. (Pro tip? A lot of confidence and reminding yourself that fashion is supposed to be fun!) And few trends are as polarizing as the fanny pack, which has seen a resurgence in popularity over the years. Come on — it's hands-free, keeps all your necessities close by, and the wide variety of designs out there mean you can find a pack to match any outfit. The latest brand to get in on the trend? None other than Bumble and bumble.

Yup, the makers of some of the most beloved hair products around — hello, Surf Spray! — teamed up with Christian Cowan to create a fanny pack that models wore down the runway for his Spring/Summer 2019 collection. The piece complemented the sculptural designs in Christian's collection — think power suits and party-ready 'fits, all in bright and glittery colors, many in the checkerboard print that Cardi B wore on her Invasion of Privacy album cover. If you weren't able to snag one of the packs waiting for show-goers at their seats, never fear; Bumble & bumble revealed to Teen Vogue that they're teaming up with Christian in the coming weeks for a giveaway.

Of course, we can't talk Bumble and bumble without mentioning what kind of hair they dreamed up for the show itself. The brand's Global Fashion Director Laurent Philippon explained that he "was hypnotized by the graphic silhouettes found throughout Christian’s collection. From there, I came to two different concepts: a strong, hand-sculpted pony to play into the bold shapes, and big, 1990s-Versace-volume-glam to pair with the denim pieces."

To try the pony out for yourself, Laurent suggests starting with Bumble's Thickening Go Big Treatment throughout your hair, then parting your hair to the side. Working in two sections, lock the lower half of your part into place using hairspray — stylists used Spray de Mode and Strong Finish backstage at Christian Cowan — then backcomb the remaining hair to give yourself some volume to work with before securing it down at the nape of your neck. If your hair is short, repeat the steps, but smooth your hair down towards the nape for a similar vibe.

But if you're aiming for loose volume, try the Versace-inspired look that would translate perfectly for homecoming. Backstage, stylists started with Go Big Treatment at models's roots before blowdrying hair upwards with a brush. Grab your curling iron and Does It All hairspray to create body, and shake it all up for instantly lived-in hair. Add a power lip in either black or red, and get ready to rock your own personal runway... uh, we mean the school hallway.
