This Budget-Friendly Reversible Persian Rug from West Elm Instantly Made My Space Feel Cozier
I grew up in a house with carpets pretty much everywhere (minus the kitchen and bathrooms, of course), which means I didn’t really start to appreciate rugs until I moved to NYC. Apartments only have tile, laminate, and wood flooring, so unless you want to walk around in socks and slippers or have cold feet for half the year, you better have some rugs around your space.
As a 20-something with limited funds, rugs were at the bottom of my priority list. I was more worried about whether my IKEA dresser was going to survive another move back then. But now that I’m in my 30s and work at a company that encourages designing living spaces you enjoy spending time in, I’ve come to love not only how a rug pulls a space together, but how plush it feels on your feet (especially after a long day of stomping around on pavement). What Is the Kay Reversible Persian Rug?
The Kay Reversible Persian Rug is a handwoven, shed-resistant 85% polyester and 15% cotton rug. It’s black and cream on one side (though I really think it looks more navy to me) and has an identical red and cream pattern on the other side. The rug is .3 inches thick, which is enough to notice a slight plushness when you walk across it. West Elm recommends that you buy a rug pad for this rug, though I personally don’t think it’s necessary. It doesn’t slip that easily. I opted for the runner size, which is 2.5 feet by 7 feet, though it also comes in four other sizes (5 feet by 8 feet, 6 feet by 9 feet, 8 feet by 10 feet, and 9 feet by 12 feet).
Why I Love the Kay Reversible Persian Rug
Honestly, this rug had me at “reversible.” If someday, I get tired of the navy blue/gray color, I can simply flip it over and give my apartment a fresh look. It’s basically two rugs in one for only $149 — I call that a great deal.
It’s cozy, doesn’t slide much (even though I don’t have the recommended rug pad underneath), and it has tied my space together, giving it a cohesive. The entryway area looked separated from the rest of my home before adding in this West Elm gem. Plus, this rug matches my Ruggable x Jonathan Adler area rug perfectly. It also adds some much-needed warmth to my floors during the winter. Our apartment is very chilly, so I appreciate not having to step on the cold wood floor all the time.
