ICYMI: Buckingham Palace apparently thought a recent comment from Queen Camilla would have people clutching their pearls, so they rushed to issue a clarification. And we’re still not over it.
Last week, the Queen traveled to the Isle of Man and delivered a speech on behalf of King Charles III. While chatting with well-wishers, she met 15-week-old twins, Louie and Oliver

“I have a Louis grandson… quite a handful,” Camilla reportedly said.
Now, if you follow Prince Louis like we follow Prince Louis (adoringly and with bated breath), you’re familiar with the 5-year-old’s antics and are not in the least bit surprised by that statement. He famously took over the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebration, he was adorably unimpressed by his grandfather’s historic coronation, and every time there’s a camera near, he instantly delivers (see below!).
So, assuming she meant her step-grandson Prince Louis, that checks out.
But the royal family’s PR team was apparently afraid people would do just that — assume. And that just wouldn’t do. A royal kindergartener being a handful? Never!
“Buckingham Palace has since clarified that the Queen was referring to grandson Louis Lopes,” Hello! magazine added their original story.
Now, was she actually talking about her daughter Laura Lopes’ 15-year-old son? Who’s to say? But by royal decree, the teen is guilty of being the “handful!”
…but what kid isn’t?
And what if Prince Louis is the handful Camilla was speaking of? Who cares?! Who’s surprised?! He’s 5 years old. Addressing his hilarious shenanigans should be the least of the palace’s worries right now. The monarchy won’t crumble just because the Queen acknowledged that Prince William and Kate Middleton’s youngest son is a master of side eye.
And yet, they rushed to point fingers at Lopes. *Eye roll*
Also, what grandparent hasn’t (lovingly?!) called their grandkid a handful at some point?
Perhaps the palace was afraid of the ramifications of Prince Louis being “a handful” and “suburban.” Or perhaps it’s just part of the ongoing campaign to get Camilla in the public’s good graces. Whatever it is, it seems like the situation was more of an unnecessary handful than either grandson could possibly be.
Before you go, check out Prince Louis’ most hilariously chaotic moments.
