BTW, Your Fast Food Sandwich Is Only Made Of 50% Real Chicken

How many times have you turned on the TV and seen an ad for a tempting chicken sandwich that's made using 100 percent chicken? Probably a lot. But not all fast food spots are the same. The number of chains that don't use all-chicken patties in their sandwiches is quite surprising. While chicken is a primary ingredient, many of the patties also contain corn starch, palm oil, sodium phosphate, and other not-so-savory ingredients.

Before you order your next chicken sandwich, read this list of fast food sandwiches that aren't made using 100 percent chicken.

Wendy's - Classic Chicken Sandwich

Described by Wendy's as "a flawless blend of nostalgia and excitement," their Classic Chicken Sandwich is a go-to menu item for many people. Unfortunately, the sandwich serves up a lot more than nostalgia, given the number of ingredients in its breaded filet. The filet, which is only 56% chicken, contains chicken breast, water, wheat flour, starch, palm oil, and nearly a dozen other ingredients.

McDonald's - McChicken

Given that McDonald's did away with its chicken snack wrap years ago, customers looking for a simple chicken sandwich can turn to the McChicken. Although the McChicken comes topped with just lettuce and mayonnaise, the McChicken patty is loaded with other ingredients. According to the McDonald's website, the McChicken patty contains boneless chicken, bleached wheat flour, water, vegetable oil, modified corn starch, potassium chloride, and more.

Subway - Oven Roasted Chicken Sandwich

Subway is certainly no stranger to controversy over ingredients. In 2021, the restaurant launched a website to prove that the tuna used in its sandwiches is real. Unfortunately for Subway, the next year a judge ruled that it was okay for the sub shop to be sued for claiming that they use "100% tuna" in their tuna products.

Well, if you're hoping to bypass any tuna controversy by purchasing their Oven Roasted Chicken Sandwich, there are a few things you should know. Daily Mail reports that their oven roasted chicken contains flavorings, potato starch, and carrageenan, which is made from red seaweeds.

Known for its flame-grilled burgers, Burger King has created a name for its chicken sandwiches, too. In fact, upon taking a glance at the current Burger King menu, you'll find half a dozen chicken sandwiches.

Unfortunately though, for fans of BK's Crispy Chicken Sandwich, you'll find several extra ingredients in the filet used for the sandwich. According to one report, 18% of the filet contains water, sodium phosphates, modified food starch, and a seasoning blend (dextrose, maltodextrin, sodium phosphate, and modified cornstarch).

Another classic sandwich option with minimal toppings, Arby's Classic Crispy Sandwich features a crispy chicken breast that's topped with lettuce, mayo, and tomato and served on a toasted bun. The chicken filet used for this particular sandwich contains chicken breast with rib meat, water, and seasoning.

The seasoning used also contains its own extensive list of ingredients, including salt, buttermilk powder, whey powder, hydrolyzed corn protein, dried onion, dried garlic yeast extract, dextrose, dried chicken broth, and maltodextrin.
