BTS Won’t Change Their "Identity" and Sing Exclusively in English Just to Win a Grammy
The members of BTS may have secured a Grammy nomination, numerous record breaking musical feats, and an ARMY of fans inspired by their every move, but that doesn't mean they'll be making major changes on their continued path to global superstardom.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the group assured fans that BTS will always remain true to their identity. As RM explained, even though a single from the group has yet to get to no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, they're still focused on creating music that resonates with who they are as a group.
"I think it’s even harder as an Asian group," RM said of securing chart-topping success. "A Hot 100 and a Grammy nomination, these are our goals. But they’re just goals — we don’t want to change our identity or our genuineness to get the number one. Like if we sing suddenly in full English, and change all these other things, then that’s not BTS. We’ll do everything, we’ll try. But if we couldn’t get number one or number five, that’s okay."
Despite not securing a no. 1 single, BTS has been doing more than OK when it comes to musical success. In May, they became the first K-Pop group to ever have a number one album on the Billboard 200 chart. They followed that feat up by becoming the first K-Pop act to ever top the Billboard Artist 100 chart.
Additionally, BTS is only just getting started. They recently announced the imminent arrival of a new album, Map of the Soul: Persona and were also confirmed for their Saturday Night Live debut on April 13th. Oh, and did I mention that they have their own line of dolls?!
So yes, while the group hasn't yet had a single make it to to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, there's no telling what more could potentially be on the horizon for BTS.
