BTS’s V Is Bringing the Perm Back

The world might feel bleak right now, but today at least we have a good reason to smile because BTS’s V is officially bringing his perm back.

On April 14, V, whose real name is Kim Taehyung, took to Twitter to announce the fan-favorite style was making its official comeback. “ARMYs, the perm is back again,” he captioned the tweet in Korean, which was accompanied by a mirror selfie of the actual perming process (tin foil, curlers, and all).

To say Tae’s post was met with excitement would be an understatement. Shortly after posting the selfie, the term ‘PERM’ (in all caps because that’s the level of excitement the revelation required) made its way onto Twitter’s top trending topics.

ARMYs started sharing compilations and appreciation posts reminiscing about their favorite past permed moments from Tae — from the Grammys to the “Black Swan” dance practice video and the recent Samsung ads. “THE PERM IS COMING BACK )(:$:; TAEHYUNG PERM ENTHUSIASTS ITS A WIN FOR US,” a fan tweeted sharing a compilation video. “Taehyung perm enthusiasts.... we won,” another one added.

Tae first debuted his superior permed ‘do back in November 2019 at Gimpo airport, when the group was spotted leaving for their muster concert in Japan. Shortly after, he made sure to let ARMYs know this was his first-ever perm with a post on Weverse.

Back in December, he informed ARMYs that the curls had disappeared for the most part during a special VLIVE broadcast he did for his birthday. “My long hair? I'm contemplating what to do with it. My perm has unravelled, and I'm considering whether I should redo it. I'm considering what to do with it at the moment," he told fans, per a translation by @doyou_bangtan.

In January, he took to Weverse once again to tell us that he had gotten it permed once again, and he has since been seen sporting the look for most of the Map of the Soul: 7 comeback promos, though somewhat intermittently (because, you know, pre-filmed content).

We’re not sure when he made the decision to re-do the perm yet again, but the world order is now restored knowing it is coming back.
