BTS Member Suga Rings in Comeback With "Interlude: Shadow" Trailer

It's all happening.

The time has come. The very first trailer for BTS’s upcoming album, Map of the Soul: 7, is here and it’s already blown our minds.

Teased as simply “SHADOW,” BTS released the comeback trailer on Big Hit’s YouTube channel on January 9. The trailer comes in the form of a new song, titled “Interlude : Shadow” sang entirely by Suga, a.k.a. Min Yoongi.

The 3-minute song showcases Yoongi’s versatile rapping skill, intermixing Korean and English lyrics and switching up flow patterns throughout the song. Picking up from previous releases, the song deals with themes such as fame, dreams, aspirations, and expectations. Suga also gets reflective on his journey with raw lyrics and plenty of shadow wordplay.

“I wondered every day how far I’d go. I came to my sense and I find myself here. Shadow at my feet. Look down, it’s gotten even bigger. I run but the shadow follows,” he raps in Korean, per the video’s official subtitles.

The visuals, which also place Suga in the limelight, are as impressive as the music. We see the Daegu wordsmith clad in juxtaposing light and dark outfits as he makes his way through an array of spaces — from an empty corridor to a worldwide stage.

In the lead-up to the release, ARMYs worldwide trended the hashtags #ShadowisComing on Twitter to show their excitement. But, once again, BTS surpassed all anticipation.

This comeback trailer is the first release off the first of four phases for BTS’s comeback plan, which was unveiled via an official schedule on the group’s Twitter on January 8. The next drop will come early next week, on January 14, in the form of “CONNECT, BTS” — an as yet unknown project that ARMYs have been speculating about since the schedule was announced. Phase 01 will come to a close on January 17 with the release of the first single off Map of the Soul: 7 and an accompanying art film.

On top of more “CONNECT, BTS,” Phase 02 will bring forth another comeback trailer, this time titled “EGO,” on February 3. More content will keep coming in the following phases, with the album release confirmed to fall on February 21 and the music video for the lead single a week later, on February 28. The latter two would round off the final fourth phase — and can you hear us screaming?!
