Out BTS: Brandi Carlile Is Iconic at the Out100 Photo Shoot

Brandi Carlile is ready for her closeup.

In this new behind-the-scenes video, the lesbian musician posed for the cover shoot of this year's Out100 issue in an intimate West Hollywood space. The clip shows her creative team in action — among them, photographer Luke Fontana, style director Maryam Malakpour, style assistants Liv McPherson and Yurga Juozapa, makeup artist Hinako Nishiguchi, and hair stylist Pamela Neal.

In addition to her moving vocals and activism, Carlile's style is part of what makes her an icon. In this shoot, the Out100 Icon of the Year sports suits and tuxedos, which are representative of the cultural space she creates for LGBTQ+ folks pushing against fashion's formerly rigid gender binaries.

Out's November/December cover story debuted online Friday in advance of the October 17 drop of the full Out100, the magazine's annual list of LGBTQ+ changemakers. The Out100 print issue hits newsstands October 31.
