Editors' Picks are the Fashionista team's true (#notspon) fashion and beauty obsessions, handpicked by professionals who see it all.

Getting dressed up always feels a little more complicated to me as soon as the weather starts to turn colder. Don't get me wrong: Fall is by far my favorite season, and I love to cozy up in a big, chunky knit, but figuring out formalwear is tricky when I can't just default to my usual warm-weather dresses and strappy sandals. But when I laid eyes on these chic brown satin mules by Staud, I knew they would become my new fall dress-up footwear staple.

First things first: For 3.5-inch heels, these shoes are surprisingly comfortable. The tapered square toe is roomy enough that it doesn't cause any pinching — plus, it makes for a modern silhouette that feels simultaneously classic and interesting. I'm obsessed with the chocolate hue and the slight sheen the satin fabric gives off, and the tiny detail of a grosgrain binding around the trim makes the whole thing feel elevated.

While these shoes seem to be the answer to all of my how-to-dress-up-in-fall worries, they're also super versatile. I can see them with jeans and the aforementioned chunky knit sweater just as easily as a cocktail dress.
