BROUSSARD, La. (KLFY)– Kiwanis Club of Broussard/Youngsville gifted the Broussard Sports Complex at St. Julien Park with two aquatic wheelchairs, with hopes of creating a more suitable space for all to enjoy.

The new wheelchairs are 18 inches with 300-pound capacity, and 24 inches with 400-pound capacity, and they aim to provide easier access to the splash pad, which is located in the Blue Pod at the complex.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Kiwanis Club of Broussard/Youngsville for their donation of equipment to assist children of all abilities,” Mayor Ray Bourque said. “Your dedication to improving the lives of others is truly inspiring and makes our city a better place for everyone.”

Anyone can reserve the aquatic wheelchairs to use for free by going to the Broussard Sports Complex website or calling their office at 337-330-2649.

“As a civic organization, we believe in the importance of giving back to our community,” Monique McBride, Kiwanis Club of Broussard/Youngsville member, said. “We hope that this donation of equipment will provide valuable support to all children and their families, enriching their lives and fostering their development.”

“I want to express my sincere gratitude for this generous donation to benefit all families who bring their children to the splash pad,” Broussard Parks and Recreation Director Jamison Abshire said. “These aquatic wheelchairs demonstrate a commitment to ensuring that all children have access to the resources they need to thrive.”
