Brooks Laich Says Wife Julianne Hough Helped Him 'Explore' His Sexuality

From Men's Health

  • On an upcoming episode of his podcast, former NHL star Brooks Laich opens up about exploring his sexuality.

  • He credits wife Julianne Hough for perking his interest in learning to understand his sexuality.

  • "A big part of my journey in 2020 is exploring my sexuality," he says.

Brooks Laich is making a point of opening up about exploring his sexuality in 2020. On an episode of his podcast How Men Think, which he co-hosts with singer Gavin DeGraw, the former athlete is opening up to listeners about his newfound exploration in sexuality and becoming more connected with his wife.

After saying on a January 2020 episode that he is hoping to “really explore learning about sexuality” this year, Laich is now clarifying his comments.

“Nothing dirty can exist between two people in love,” he explains in the new episode. “I’ve shared this on the show many times, a big part of my journey in 2020 is exploring my sexuality. And by that I don’t mean if I’m gay or straight.”

The former Washington Capitals player, who married former Dancing With the Stars dancer and actress Julianne Hough in July 2017, then clarified his comment, stating that he was referring to his sexual relationship with his wife, rather than speculation of whether he identifies as LGBTQ+. “What is my sexuality? What am I craving, what are my desires and what are my wife’s? And how could we have this language to feed each other and get everything we want and be sexually expressed to the nth degree in everything.”

Despite rumors of the couple having marital troubles swirling around in the press over the last few months, the 36-year-old insisted that this new sexual journey is due to Hough motivating him to find answers to his sexual questions—and not based on today’s societal norms.

“When you say sexuality, culture or society thinks it’s gay or straight,” Laich points out. “Some people are figuring that out, that’s fine. But my journey is discovering and learning and figuring out my capacity for sexual feelings, which in my life has been very low on the priority list.”

“I’ve discovered this,” he added, “and through doing this show and also through my wife, who’s exploring as well, and shared a lot of this with me and has perked my interest in it.

“I’ve been exposed to a beautiful new side of life that I never, ever explored or thought to explore before and it’s been amazing.”
