‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Fans, Rejoice: NBC Has Picked Up the Show for Season 6!

Fans of Brooklyn Nine-Nine can breathe a deep sigh of relief. Just one day after FOX announced it was pulling the plug on the beloved Andy Samberg-Terry Crews comedy, NBC has come to its rescue, all thanks to a massive outcry from fans on social media.

FOX surprised viewers Friday by revealing its decision not to renew the show following its Season 5 finale on May 20. Almost immediately, the hashtag #RenewB99 began trending on Twitter, with fans and celebs alike, including Star Wars: The Last Jedi star Mark Hamill and Lin-Manuel Miranda, voicing their displeasure.

Their voices were heard loud and clear by NBC. The network, which once owned the original rights to the show, picked it back up for a sixth season of 13 episodes, making devoted viewers’ dreams come true.

“Ever since we sold this show to FOX I’ve regretted letting it get away, and it’s high time it came back to its rightful home,” NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt said of the decision. “We’re all thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest, and best cast comedies in a long time will take its place in our comedy line-up.”

B99 creator Dan Goor gave full credit to the series’ passionate followers, tweeting: “Hey everyone, just wanted to say no big deal but…. NBC JUST PICKED #BROOKLYN99 UP FOR SEASON 6!!! Thanks in no small part to you, the best fans in the history of the world! Nine-nine!!!!!!!!!”

Producer Ken Tremendous echoed his sentiment, gushing, “This happened because the fans of the show went berserk. We can’t thank you — or @NBC — enough. #Brooklyn99.”

Actress Melissa Fumero (who plays Amy Santiago on the show) shared a hilarious GIF, writing, “#Brooklyn99 IS COMING BACK FOR SEASON 6 YOU GUYS ON NBC!!!!! You did this!! You got loud and you were heard and you saved our show!! Thank you!! Thank you to NBC!! NINE NINE!!!!!”

And Terry Crews? Well, he credited the power of the OG Jedi himself.
