In the four years since bedding company Brooklinen launched, the brand's earned a cult following for its silky-soft sheets and comforters, all sold at prices that seemed too good to be true. That was part of founders Rich and Vicki Fulop's ethos - luxe bedding that's actually affordable - and the proof of their success has been in the small business's results. To date, they've racked up more than 28,000 reviews, with an average of 4.8 out of 5 stars.

Recently, however, the founders released a statement announcing that the prices of their obsessed-over Classic and Luxe sheet sets will be increasing by up to 20 percent starting Tuesday, Sept. 4.

"Since our launch 4 years ago, raw cotton prices alone have increased 40%," the couple wrote in the statement, noting that "there have been changes surrounding us as we've grown - specifically regarding international tariff laws, and prices of commodities that are key to our business such as cotton and down."

The company must, therefore, raise prices on the two types of sheets in order to maintain the quality they have always promised consumers. While a 20 percent hike may seem steep, the sheets are still well below some other luxury brands. Brooklinen's classic sheet sets, for example, have climbed from a starting price of $99 to $109, which makes them comparable to another cult-favorite brand, Parachute (which also starts their sets at $109).
