Brooke Shields‘ eldest daughter Rowan Henchy is studying abroad in Europe, and having the 20-year-old living across the ocean is “the absolute worst,” according to the anxious mom of two.

At Glamour’s 2023 Women of the Year Awards, the Suddenly Susan actress lamented about enduring the many ways she’s currently distanced from Henchy while the Wake Forest University student completes her overseas program. “It’s the worst, it’s the absolute worst,” Shields told TODAY. “It was bad enough when she went to college, now she’s hours later and I can’t find her and I get pictures of her escapades,” she complained of her daughter’s temporary international move.

Though Shields admitted the major change has been “hard to accept as a mom,” she revealed she has one handy trick up her sleeve that gives her a little peace of mind. “I’ve got my [phone] locater on so I can find her. If I can’t get it, I find her, I’m like, ‘I can’t find you. Trust me, you want me to be able to find you, and then I’ll leave you alone,'” the former model joked.

Even before Henchy left, Shields knew she was going to be an emotional mess — so much so that she chose not to accompany her husband, Chris Henchy, and younger daughter, Grier Henchy, to drop Rowan off at the airport. “I wouldn’t take her, my husband took her,” the Blue Lagoon star confessed. “I left her at the curb in front of where we live. I was like, ‘You drive her. I’m going to be right here but I cannot do an airport, I will embarrass you.'”

The family will be reuniting soon, much to Shields’ elation, for the upcoming holiday season. “My daughter is studying over in Europe so she can’t come home because she doesn’t have a real Thanksgiving break, so we’re all going to go see her,” the Down Came the Rain author shared. “It’s going to be fun, we’re going to have to find turkey, but maybe not, maybe we’ll just have something else,” she excitedly mused.
