Brooke Shields' new documentary Pretty Baby, which premieres on Hulu in two parts on April 3, tells the story of the star's problematic upbringing in Hollywood. The documentary, which is named after Brooke's first major on-screen debut in the 1978 film of the same name, has already received massive acclaim and was an official selection for the Sundance Film Festival in 2023.

The two-part film mostly documents Brooke's early career in Hollywood. As a young girl Brooke was "catapulted into a world of adult sexuality," per the trailer. For example, the original film Pretty Baby, which Brooke starred in at just 12 years old, is the story of a young girl being raised in a brothel—eventually becoming a prostitute.

In the 1980s, Brooke's career really exploded with her roles in The Blue Lagoon, Endless Love, and her iconic Calvin Klein ad campaign at just 15, which at the time, was considered extremely sexually charged.

Although Brooke's early career was troubling, she's since lived a quieter life and is now coming out to tell her side of the story.

"I'm allowed to be a human being," Brooke, now 57, says in the Pretty Baby documentary trailer.

For a glimpse into what Brooke's life is like now, Women's Health has gathered everything to know about the star's relationship with her husband, Chris Henchy.

The couple met, and started dating, in 1999.

Believe it or not, Brooke's bulldog, Darla, actually introduced the couple! In 1999, Brooke brought her pet to the gym on the Warner Bros. lot in Los Angeles to show her friends, she wrote in her 2005 memoir Down Came The Rain: My Journey Through Postpartum Depression, per PEOPLE.

While chatting with her pals, Brooke's dog wandered off and found Chris Henchy. At the time, Chris was working on a show on the lot, and brought Darla back to Brooke (he apparently loved dogs). The pair chatted, and Brooke wrote in her memoir that she fell in love with him in that moment, per PEOPLE. "We chatted and he made me laugh," she wrote. Aww.

When the couple met, Brooke had only recently divorced her first husband, Andre Angassi, who she married in 1997, per PEOPLE. However, the actress felt that Chris was worth starting something with and "had to admit there was something between us I could no longer ignore, and we started dating," she wrote in her 2005 memoir.

Chris works in entertainment.

Chris, 59, is actually pretty big star behind the camera. Brooke's husband has worked as a screenwriter and producer on some very popular projects (he also has technically acted before too, but only in very small roles, per his IMDb page).

Some of Chris' credits for producing and writing include The Campaign, the HBO television series Entourage, Tammy, and Daddy's Home, per his IMDb page. He also co-created the popular comedy website and brand Funny Or Die with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay in 2007.

Fun fact: Chris actually got his career start in finance after majoring in it in college, and worked on Wall Street for a while. However, he was reportedly "terrible" at his job, and ended up pivoting to stand up, selling his first joke for $150, per Second City.

Brooke and Chris got engaged in Mexico.

In August 2000, Chris Henchy proposed to Brooke Shields while the pair was on vacation, her publicist confirmed to the Associated Press at the time, per PEOPLE.

They got married in 2001.

A little less than year later, the couple was married in Palm Springs, California on May 26, 2001, per PEOPLE. However, according to the New York Post at the time, the couple may have had a smaller ceremony on Catalina Island a month prior to their public service.

The couple has two daughters together.

During their marriage, the couple raised two daughters together: Rowan Francis Henchy, 19, who was born in 2003, and Grier Hammond Henchy, 16, who was born in 2006.

Rowan currently attends Wake Forest University, while Grier is still in high school, and following in her mother's career in modeling. She appeared in a Mother's Day modeling campaign for Victoria's Secret alongside Brooke last year, per PEOPLE.

Brooke wrote a children's book based on Chris' relationship with their daughters.

Brooke's first children's book, Welcome To Your World, Baby, was inspired by Rowan's budding relationship with Grier when she was born. For her second children's book, Brooke turned her inspiration to her husband's relationship with their daughters.

In 2009, the actress published It's The Best Day Ever, Dad! based on Chris' relationship with Rowan and Grier. "I think [Chris] was embarrassed by it, but also sort of touched by it," Brooke said on TODAY at the time, per PEOPLE.

Chris wrote a television series based on Brooke.

In addition to some of his other big credits, Chris actually created an entire series that was loosely based on his relationship with Brooke Shields called I'm With Her. The series only ran for one season, but followed a teacher who starts dating a famous movie star.

Their meet cute? The main character gets bit by the actress' dog. Sounds a bit familiar, huh?

Lucky for Chris, his relationship with Brooke has lasted much longer than the show. What a cute pair!
