Britney Spears shared a message with fans following the release of the new documentary TMZ Investigates: Britney Spears: The Price of Freedom.

The film, which first aired on May 15 via Fox and is now streaming on Hulu, discusses Spears' life after her conservatorship and makes various allegations about the pop star and her current relationships with loved ones.

Spears, 41, took to Instagram with her thoughts, writing, "Considering what happened to me during the conservatorship and how hard I work everyday to be a better person since it’s been over !!! The concern and just effort on TMZ’s part of being the trashiest news channel for news !!! Damn I’m flattered !!!"

"These men who I have no idea who they are, are talking about me as if they have any right at all to do so !!! My girlfriend called me and said 'because I know you I was laughing at these men and what they were saying' !!! But she also said it was really disturbing how incredibly conniving and foolish it was !!!" she explained.

The pop star spoke earnestly about how the media has treated her over the years and how things like the documentary affect how others see her.

"The media has always been cruel to me and most people probably wouldn’t even comment on it but I do think some people might believe this and I care !!! I almost feel like my life in the business has always been that girl at school who was bullied and laughed at !!!," Spears wrote. "But in my case, there is no superior person to set it straight !!!"

The mother of two stated that her father, Jamie Spears, was "supposed to protect my mind and heart from things of this matter" but said that instead, he was "secretly loving it."

Spears then spoke of her hopes to share her story, whether through a book or something else, but said, "It may take me a year, maybe longer, who knows."

The singer shared her statement alongside an image of a meme talking about how we put a lot more effort into self-care as we get older.

Previously, Spears' husband, Sam Asghari, slammed the documentary for how it aims to "put [Spears] under a microscope and tell her story." He also warned people against the "clickbait articles" claiming things about Spears, her marriage, or her family.
