Did Britney Spears and Sam Asghari get married in secret?

After meeting back in 2016 on the set of her music video for Slumber Party, singer Britney Spears and actor, model and personal trainer, Sam Asghari, have been a solid couple – often posting about one another on social media. Here, we take a look back at their time together (starting with the most recent update first).
12 April 2022: Britney's pregnant! The singer and Sam revealed they were expecting their first child together, while also setting off speculation that the pair are engaged. Britney, who already has two children with Kevin Federline - Sean Preston Federline, 16 and Jayden James Federline, 15, wrote on Instagram:
"I lost so much weight to go on my Maui trip only to gain it back 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️ … I thought “Geez … what happened to my stomach ???” My husband said “No you’re food pregnant silly 🤪 !!!” So I got a pregnancy test … and uhhhhh well … I am having a baby 👶🏼
"4 days later I got a little more food pregnant 🤰🏼🙈🙈🙈 It’s growing !!! If 2 are in there … I might just loose it 😬😬😬😬😬😬.... This time I will be doing yoga 🧘♀️ every day !!! Spreading lots of joy and love 💕 !!!"
So, not only are they expecting, but fans think her use of "husband" might mean they got married in secret, too!

Here's the rest of Britney and Sam's relationship timeline:
October 2016: Sam plays Britney's love interest in the video for Slumber Party, a track she released with Tinashe (said video now has over 93 million views on YouTube). Recalling the moment during an interview with Men's Health two years later, Sam says, "I was excited that I [would] get to meet one of the biggest artists of all time... I had butterflies."
Sam also revealed that when they first met, his jokes didn't exactly land – but that the pair still hit it off and ended up going for sushi not long after the shoot. "She said, 'Hi, I’m Britney' and I said, 'I’m sorry. What’s your name again?'", Sam recounted. "I tried to be funny. I don’t think anybody got it."
1 January 2017: The pair make things Instagram official when Britney posts a photo of Sam with his arm around her, simply captioned "Happy New Year 🎉🎉🎉". During his earlier mentioned Men's Health interview, when asked about this particular time in their relationship, Sam said, "After the video came out, nobody knew we were dating. I don’t think [she or I] had the intention to just be friends."
Later that month, Britney says during a radio interview, "I found his number in my bag. I was like, 'He is really cute, this guy is really cute'... So I called him and ever since then, he is just a really fun, funny person."

29 November 2017: Sam and Britney are pictured while taking her two sons, Jayden and Sean, to a basketball game for some family bonding time. They look very loved up.
5 February 2018: Britney shares that she and Sam have been together for over a year and that he's had a positive impact on her life, "I've been with this man for over a year... everyday he inspires me to be a better person and that makes me feel like the luckiest girl in the world!! @samasghari 🌈🌸❤️ "

12 April 2018: Sam and Britney attend their first formal event together, the 29th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles. They seem happy and relaxed together.
12 December 2018: The couple share a funny insight into their date nights, via a video in which Sam compliments Britney on her sexy shoes and she replies "Where are we eating?" LOL (relatable).

April 2019: On 4 April, after news breaks that Britney has checked into a mental health facility, Sam publicly supports her on Instagram, "It isn’t weakness, It's a sign of absolute strength, people should only be inspired by this, at least I am ♥️ #stronger"
Later that month, Sam shares a montage video of him and Britney smooching in various locations for International Kissing Day, from the gym (while doing sit-ups) to a boat. On the subject of their shared workout routines, Sam previously told Men's Health, "The exercises, I come up with them, but the videos are because of my better half. She’s the video director. It's a very fun thing, I look back at them and smile."

22 July 2019: They make their first red carpet appearance together for the premiere of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.
20 September 2019: Another red carpet appearance together – this time for the Daytime Beauty Awards. Earlier that month, Sam told Entertainment Tonight what he loves most about their relationship: "It’s so normal, it’s not glamorous or anything... She inspires me in my work and I can give so much to her by going to the gym, by going to work, by having a balanced life. We can get inspired by each other here and there and really grow with each other."
4 March 2020: Britney posts a sweet belated birthday shout out to Sam, sharing a black and white photo of him in a jacuzzi. "Yes folks 🔥🔥🔥 he’s a stunner!!!! But I must say this shot is my favorite on his page …… why you ask ????! Well it’s because I shot it of course !!!! All I said was don’t look at the camera ….. he listened and it was magic ✨💕😉😉😉📸 !!!! He’s the only man I’ve ever photographed in my life !!!! Happy Belated B-day @samasghari ..... love you 🌹 !!!!!"

9 February 2021: Framing Britney Spears airs and Sam tells Entertainment Tonight that he's only ever wanted the best for her. "I have always wanted nothing but the best for my better half and will continue to support her following her dreams and creating the future she wants and deserves."
He also thanked fans for showing Britney love and expressed his hopes for their future, "I am thankful for all of the love and support she is receiving from her fans all over the world, and I am looking forward to a normal, amazing future together."
10 February 2021: The documentary, Framing Britney, airs, charting the singer's rise to fame and the Free Britney movement. Said movement is spearheaded by fans who believe Britney's father, Jamie Spears, should no longer have control over her finances and schedule via a court-issued conservatorship. Not typically one to comment on his girlfriend's private life, Sam made a bold statement on Instagram Stories, confirming he's also not a fan of Jamie.
"Now it’s important for people to understand that I have zero respect for someone trying to control our relationship and constantly throwing obstacles our way," Sam wrote. "In my opinion James is a total dick. I won’t be going into details because I’ve always respected our privacy but at the same time I didn’t come to this country to not be able to express my opinion and freedom." He rounded his post off with a mic drop emoji.
Britney, possibly in response to the documentary, posted a clip of her performing herself smash hit Toxic with the caption: "Remember, no matter what we think we know about a person's life it is nothing compared to the actual person living behind the lens 📷✨ !!!!"
February 2021: Sam marks his fourth Valentine's Day with Britney with a sweet Instagram tribute, in the wake of the reaction to Hulu's documentary, Framing Britney Spears.
"After chocolate 🍫 I’m her favourite 😂 " he writes to his 1.5million Intagram followers, along with a photo of the pair on a hike. "Happy chocolate Day lioness ❤️ #myvalentine"

24th February 2021: Britney posted two cute throwback pictures of her and Sam from their trip to Hawaii last year. Taken on a private plane, one photo shows them sweetly cuddling up together while a second shot shows the singer wrapped in a blanket while Sam pulls a silly face next to her. Sam, who recently signed a deal with a new modelling agency, shared the first picture to his Instagram Stories.
23 June 2021: While his girlfriend Britney Spears bravely spoke out in court against her conservatorship, even alleging that her father had prevented her and Sam from getting married or having a baby, by forcing her IUD to remain in place, Sam showed support over on his Instagram Stories.
Without saying too much, Sam said plenty by posting a selfie showing him wearing a white t-shirt with the words 'Free Britney' painted on the front, along with a lion emoji – another nod of support to Britney, who he calls his 'lioness'. He later followed up with a close-up shot of a lion's determined face.

12 September 2021: Britney fans went wild over the weekend after her boyfriend, Sam Asghari, seemingly posted and deleted a photo of an engagement ring. In the now-deleted post, a silver band with a rather hefty looking diamond could be seen with the word "Lioness" engraved on the inside.
The pair later confirmed they were engaged, with Britney confirming the news on her own Instagram account. Cute!
