For years, I was skeptical of wrinkle-smoothing patches. It wasn’t until I did some research, read shopper reviews, and, most recently, saw the one and only Britney Spears advocate for the SiO Beauty Brow Lift Patch that I was able to shake my skepticism.

While topical treatments hardly outperform injectable wrinkle-reducers — which are administered by a licensed specialist, deep beneath the skin — wrinkle-smoothing patches, like the SiO Beauty Brow Lift Patch, deliver similar results. Spears, who recently took to Instagram to profess her love for the product, said “I’m sharing this because it actually really does work,” in the post’s caption.

The SiO Beauty Brow Lift is an adhesive facial patch made out of medical grade silicone that temporarily reduces the appearance of horizontal forehead wrinkles and vertical lines between the brows (also known as “elevens”). Additionally, the patch imparts a lifted look to the upper face. Designed to mimic results of an injectable neurotoxin, e.g. Botox Cosmetic, it similarly smooths lines — sans needles, toxins, or treatment rooms, for $36. The brand, which specializes in wrinkle-smoothing skincare and patches, offers various options for different areas.

Unlike neurotoxins, which take up to two weeks to fully kick in, the SiO patch delivers visible results within an hour or so. Curved to fit facial contours comfortably, the patch is safe for all skin types, though the brand recommends to not use it if you have an allergy or sensitivity to silicone. Each patch is reusable up to 10 times, making it an all the more affordable smoothing alternative to in-office procedures.

Spears likens the patch’s flexible, thick silicone material to feeling like “putty” or “playdough,” and demonstrates its strong adhesive nature by moving her face and head, hands free, in her video. In line with the brand’s claims, results are visible after about “an hour,” Spears says. “It really brightens my eyes,” she adds, “and lifts my forehead — without all those needles [and] the cost of [injectables].” The Grammy winner even goes as far as to call the SiO patch a “replacement” for Botox.

Spears opened up about her experiences with cosmetic injectables in the past, including Botox and lip filler. While she credited a round of “subtle” lip filler for creating an “adorable pout,” she said she’s been much less enthused after neurotoxins. The pop idol acknowledges that some injectors can “do amazing Botox,” though she says she hasn’t “had [her Botox] done right… for years.”

Spears shares that Botox gave her uneven brows, plus ptosis, or brow drooping — both of which are possible side-effects. In short, ‘tox hinders certain facial muscles from contracting, thus smoothing the overlying skin — which can lead to possible complications, as Spears shared. Results last for up to four months — an upside when they look good — but a frustrating reality when things go awry, as they did for Spears. “I cried and then I’m like, when is this gonna go away?” she wrote in her caption.
