British Zoo Celebrates Birth of Rare Red Howler Monkey

In the wild, red howler monkeys can be found in South American Rainforests, but in the UK, they can only be found in one place: Yorkshire's Wildlife Park in Dorchester, England. At this park, you can view a number of exotic animals, though recently everyone's been flocking to the red howler monkey exhibit.

These mammals can be hard to see when they're high up in the trees, but those who look closely might spot one more monkey than there had been a few weeks ago. As BBC reports, a new Venezuelan red howler baby was born on April 29, and everyone's hoping to get a glimpse.

OMG--just look how tiny the baby is! Even though it's too early for wildlife experts to tell whether they're male or female, we know they're going to have a great life with their little family.

As the zoo explained, this red howler monkey's parents--Mom Tila and Dad Geronimo--welcomed a daughter named Pabla back in 2021. We're sure she'll take to her new role as big sister as naturally as possible!

It is believed that these two monkey babies have been the first two red howler monkeys to be born in the United Kingdom. This South American species definitely isn't found in the wild in England, and Yorkshire Wildlife Park is the only place in the country where they can be found.

For those who are close enough to visit the zoo, you'll find the howler monkeys--who are named for their loud, territorial sounds-- "residing alongside the South American Giant Anteaters." That's the kind of coexistence we love to see! And remember, these zoo monkeys will most likely be up in the treetops, so look closely!
