Shelves don't have to be just for displaying your stuff—they can also stand on their own (literally, sometimes) as decor pieces.

You’ve likely seen an A-frame ladder shelf or the DIY hanging rope shelf, both of which function as beautiful pieces and hard-working storage options. But TikTok is taking that concept to the next level with the vibrant, fun Lego block shelves popping up everywhere across the app.

The process of making your own is fairly easy once you round up your supplies. Here's everything you need and a step-by-step guide for getting the look in your own home.

How to Make the Trending Lego Shelves

First and most importantly, you need Lego containers. One TikTok creator found theirs at Marshall's for $25, but you can choose from a range of colors, sizes, and shapes at Lego’s website. While there are no rules, most DIYers gravitate toward the eight-stud storage brick.

Next, take the lid off of the storage brick and drill two holes into the bottom of the container, making sure they’re close enough to the top two corners. Then use two screws (this creator used 2-inch screws) to attach it to the wall.

Simply slip your Lego lid onto the brick, and you've got yourself a playful and colorful place to display any books, small plants, disco figurines, or glasses and mugs. It’s perfect for—you guessed it—showing off your favorite Lego creations. You can also style it according to the season or for any upcoming holidays (the previously-mentioned creators added Halloween decor). One TikTok user even suggested putting the shelf in your bathroom as a toilet paper holder in the comment section.

Since you’re only using a few screws and the storage brick isn’t designed to be hung on a wall, don’t put anything too heavy on the box—or inside, if you're using it for storage.

"Hide treats in it u don't wanna share 😂," another comment recommended.

If you love the Lego decor look and are looking for more ways to channel it in your home, Lego sells plenty of items made for that: wall hanger sets, their famous flower bouquets, salt and pepper shakers, a cute ceramic mug, a brick bookrack, and more.
