Brighton Resort, Utah, Updates Parking Reservation System Amidst Community Frustration

Yesterday, Brighton Resort, Utah, changed its parking reservation system, allowing skiers to park without reservations Monday through Thursday, effective December 18th.

Parking reservations remain in place Friday through Saturday and on holidays. Previously, Brighton required parking reservations weeklong—an initiative the Resort put in place at the start of this season in the hopes of quelling skier and traffic congestion.

The previous system led to widespread frustration on social media, with groups of skiers frequently airing their complaints below Brighton's Instagram posts. Many suggested that the weeklong parking reservation system made it too challenging to go skiing because the reservation slots filled too quickly.

The amended approach, wherein parking reservations aren't required Monday through Thursday, is an olive branch delivered from Brighton's management to local skiers.

The Resort is issuing refunds to those who made paid midweek parking reservations. "All midweek reservations made will be canceled, and any paid reservations will be refunded," the parking reservations tab of the Resort's website reads.

Notably, Brighton is about to enter a holiday period where weekday reservations will be temporarily required. Parking reservations are required from December 25th to January 2nd, regardless of the day of the week. Monday, January 15th, and February 19th are additional weekdays requiring reservations this winter.

Parking reservations are free for qualifying Brighton season pass holders and drivers carrying three or more passengers. For everyone else, they cost $20. More information about Brighton's altered parking reservation system is available here.
