A TV adaptation of the bestselling book Lessons in Chemistry starring Academy Award winner Brie Larson is heading to Apple TV+. The actress, who is also an executive producer on the limited series, celebrated the news back in August 2022, when the show first went into production. "I’ll be living in the world of science, rowing, a cute dog, true love and cooking for the next few months," she wrote on Instagram.

At the time, the Marvel star teased that there would be "a lot of heart and thought put into every moment you’ll see on screen."

Here is everything to know about Lessons in Chemistry.

What is Lessons in Chemistry about?

Like the book, the series centers around Larson's character Elizabeth Zott, who is a chemist in the 1950s. She and renowned scientist Calvin Evans (Lewis Pullman) both work at Hastings Research Institute and end up falling in love. However, after a series of events involving, you guessed it, sexism and discrimination, single mother Elizabeth loses her job at the lab and becomes the star of a cooking show called Supper at Six.

The official synopsis for the drama reads: "Set in the early 1950s, Lessons in Chemistry follows Elizabeth Zott (played by Brie Larson), whose dream of being a scientist is put on hold in a patriarchal society. When Elizabeth finds herself fired from her lab, she accepts a job as a host on a TV cooking show, and sets out to teach a nation of overlooked housewives—and the men who are suddenly listening—a lot more than recipes."

Is Lessons in Chemistry based on a book?

The Apple TV+ series is based on Bonnie Garmus' critically-acclaimed debut book of the same name, which came out in April 2022.

Is Lessons in Chemistry based on a true story?

No. The show is based on a work of fiction by Bonnie Garmus. However, the author says she had her mother's "entire generation in mind" when she wrote Lessons in Chemistry.

In an interview with The Guardian, Garmus shared, "My mother didn’t inspire Elizabeth Zott; instead, I created Elizabeth Zott in honour of her and all the other women whose dreams were sidelined by a society insisting they were incapable of becoming anything more than an 'average housewife.'"

When does Lessons in Chemistry premiere?

Set a reminder because the series debuts Friday, Oct. 13.

Will all episodes of Lessons in Chemistry drop at once?

No. Two episodes will be released on Oct. 13 followed by new episodes weekly on Fridays through Nov. 24.
